Call for students
Volunteer guides at European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad 2018

We are looking for university students who want to share their passion and excitement about Italy with the contestants of EGMO 2018 in Florence.

The European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad is an international mathematical competition addressed to talented high school female students. About 50 teams of different nations will take part in the event.
Your main duty will be to follow, assist and befriend one of these teams of four students and their adult leaders, during the whole week of the competition, from April 9th to 15th, 2018. Moreover you may have to assist with the organization of sport and entertainment activities during the week.

Requirements

You need to speak fluent English (C1 level or better) plus two or more of the following languages (B2 level or better):

Italian, Albanian, Arabic, Arabic Tunisian, Azerbaijani, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Czech, Dutch, Finnish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Japanese, Kazakh, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovenian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian.

We are looking for students who are organized, friendly, patient, dependable, work well with individuals and small groups in a public environment, know a bit the town of Florence, its features and the local mobility and who share a strong enthusiasm for Italian culture and/or high school competitions and/or mathematics.

Commitment

Four hours of training in March, plus 60 hours of work on different shifts, with full time availability (24/7) during the week of the event, from April 9th to April 15th, 2018.

Housing

Accommodations and meals are included in the hotel where the competition takes place.

Wages

Maybe there will be some small economic reward, but please be aware that this is volunteer work for people who want to participate in a unique event, in an exciting international setting: an awesome opportunity to practice languages, meet different cultures, get to know interesting people and make a difference. (Plus, the hotel is 4 stars and there will be free gadgets and cookies!)

Dates

From April 9th to 15th, 2018.

Workplace

Mainly inside Grand Hotel Mediterraneo, Florence, but there will be organized tours to other places.

Application

Please send your CV in English, including EU language self-assessment grid (explaining how you have learnt the languages you mentioned), a picture of yourself and a cover letter by e-mail to: guides@egmo2018.org

If selected, you will participate in a group audition and, if selected from the audition, you will participate in an individual interview.

Female candidates who speak Italian will be given some priority in the selection process.
